FCT Police Arrest 15 Suspects For Looting Warehouse in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has disclosed the arrest of 15 individuals linked to the vandalism of a warehouse belonging to the Federal Capital Development Authority in Abuja.

According to SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following the destruction of the warehouse in the Tasha area of Abuja. Among those apprehended were two security guards employed by the warehouse management.

Adeh further reported the recovery of 26 bags of maize, five motorcycles, and vandalized aluminum roofing sheets from the suspects.

In her statement released on Sunday in Abuja, Adeh stated, “The police command in the FCT is fully informed about the impulsive attack on the Agric Department Strategic food store located at Tasha area of Abuja, on March 3. The attack has resulted in the vandalism and looting of the warehouse. The command wishes to state that normalcy has since been restored to the area and the situation, under control.”

Meanwhile, the Agricultural and Rural Development Secretariat of the FCTA confirmed a similar incident of looting at its warehouse in Dei-Dei on Sunday. Zakari Aliyu, the spokesperson for the ARD Secretariat, confirmed the extensive looting and vandalism of the warehouse, expressing concern over the dire situation.

Aliyu assured that efforts were underway to address the aftermath of the incident, with plans for a comprehensive assessment of the damages. He mentioned that the Secretary, accompanied by other officials, would revisit the site to gather more information.

The incidents underscore the challenges faced amid economic hardships in the country, prompting authorities to take swift action to restore order and security in affected areas.
