FCTA Confirms Looting of Warehouse in Abuja, NEMA Denies Involvement

The Agricultural and Rural Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration has confirmed the looting of its warehouse in Dei-Dei on Sunday, attributing the incident to economic hardship faced by residents in the FCT.

According to Zakari Aliyu, the spokesperson for the ARD Secretariat, the Secretary had visited the warehouse earlier, discovering that everything in the store had been looted and the premises vandalized, with roofs and windows removed.

In response to the situation, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, and FCT Mandate Secretary, Agric Secretariat, Lawan Geidam, are scheduled to visit the facility on Monday to provide further details on the incident.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a statement through its Press Unit denying reports that its warehouse in Abuja was looted. The agency expressed sympathy towards the owners of the affected warehouse.

NEMA clarified that the looted warehouse does not belong to them, and Director-General Mustapha Habib Ahmed has instructed the reinforcement of security at NEMA’s zonal offices and warehouses nationwide to prevent any potential security breaches.

The statement emphasized NEMA’s commitment to maintaining security around its facilities and ensuring the safety of its assets.
