Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA Approves 100% Salary Increase for Primary Health Center Doctors in Lagos

In a significant move aimed at enhancing healthcare services, Mr. Fuad Atanda-Lawal, Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos, has sanctioned a 100% salary raise for medical doctors working in primary health centers (PHCs) across the council area.

The decision, announced today following extensive deliberations, underscores the LCDA’s commitment to ensuring accessible, high-quality healthcare for all residents within its jurisdiction.

Scheduled to take effect from February 2024, the pay increment reflects the chairman’s determination to combat the prevalent issue of brain drain in Nigeria’s health sector and confront the challenges posed by escalating inflation rates.

Atanda-Lawal emphasized his confidence in the competence of Nigerian doctors, asserting that with appropriate incentives, they possess the capability to compete globally, thereby fostering enduring dedication to the nation.

Simultaneously, the announcement coincides with the commencement of construction for a modern primary health center designed to cater to a broader segment of the community, signaling the LCDA’s proactive approach in bolstering healthcare infrastructure.

The chairman reiterated the council’s unwavering support for the efforts of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwolu in delivering accessible and affordable healthcare to all Lagosians.

Recognizing the significance of investing in healthcare professionals, Atanda-Lawal affirmed that such measures are pivotal in achieving the collective objective of comprehensive healthcare delivery.

This decision holds profound importance as it addresses the critical issue of brain drain within the health sector, aims to retain skilled medical personnel, and mitigates the adverse effects of inflation on healthcare professionals’ livelihoods, thereby ensuring stability and motivation within the workforce.
