Yul Edochie, the Nollywood actor turned pastor, has addressed the criticism surrounding what some have labeled as false prophecies regarding the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Earlier, Edochie had made a prophecy predicting that the Nigerian Super Eagles would emerge victorious in the 2023 AFCON tournament. However, the team faced defeat at the hands of Ivory Coast in the final match.

Taking to his Instagram page, Edochie had previously posted, “Today’s game will not go to penalty shootout. Nigeria will comfortably defeat Ivory Coast.” Yet, despite his prediction, the Super Eagles experienced a 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast.

In the wake of the defeat, Nigerians on social media expressed their disappointment and criticized Edochie’s prophecy as being inaccurate.

In response to the backlash, Edochie acknowledged the outcome, stating on his page, “It is well. Thank you, Super Eagles. Making it to the finals is a commendable achievement. We are proud of you all for your outstanding performance throughout the tournament.”

He continued, “Win or lose, in good times or bad, we stand united. I cherish my country, Nigeria. Brighter days lie ahead. We remain the Giant of Africa.”
